You're gonna miss this

When I picked up Joel today, I had plans to go tent shopping. We have not gone camping with him yet and we need more then our tiny backpacking tent. He made the transition today from the baby room to the toddler room at school. I think it wore him out because he was really tired. I debated going home or going in search of a tent.

I decided to go for the tent and told myself if he got cranky, I'd go home. I thought to myself, wow it use to be really easy to run to a few stores to comparison shop. It wasn't a complaint so much as an observation.

Then I started flipping through the radio stations. I don't really listen to the radio much but sometimes in the car, I'll listen to country. A song by Trace Atkins had just started, You're gonna miss this. The message I take from the song is to enjoy all the stages as they come, because they will go so fast and you really will miss them.

It is so true. I already can't believe how much he has grown and changed. I love the stage we are in now, into everything and trying really hard to walk. Soaking it all up and everything is new. Wonder and starting to make lots of connections.

But I already miss the stage of the little sweet baby in my arms.

So it just reminded me once again to live in the moment with my family and enjoy the ride.

  1. Thanks for the reminder! We all need to hear it... especially since I've been getting really REALLY fed up with my 5-year old near the end of this summer. I am going to "miss this" one day.
